Is This India's 73rd Or 74th Independence Day

NEW DELHI: The country would be celebrating its Independence Day on Saturday.Every year, with the arrival of August 15, confusion occurs over the number of years country has been independent and which Independence Day is this year.Many people are confused if this is India's 73rd Independence Day, or 74th. The source of confusion lies in not knowing the difference between "Independence Day" and "year of Independence".India became an independent nation on August 15, 1947. India completed one year of independence on August 15, 1948; 10 years of independence on August 15, 1958; 20 years of independence on August 15, 1968; and 70 years of independence on August 15, 2017.In 2020, India completed 73 years as an independent nation. In other words, we exclude 1947 and start our count from 1948.However, when we calculate the number of Independence Day the country has celebrated, we also include August 15, 1947, making it our 74th Independence Day.
